Small Business Website Design for Local Businesses Ready to Grow

Whether you’re launching your first small business website or ready for a more strategic online presence, you deserve a website that feels aligned, supports your goals, and helps local customers connect with your business.

Designed for local service providers, brick-and-mortar shops, and service-based businesses.

You don’t need a big agency to get a website that works for you.

Small business websites work best when they’re clear, provide a simple customer experience. As a Boston-area website designer, I create custom sites that look great and help clients and customers understand your value right away.

I design websites on Squarespace and WordPress, and I’ll help you choose the platform that best supports your goals, content, and capacity, not just what’s popular or trendy.

Website Design Process for Local Businesses

Most small business websites are completed during a scheduled 3-week time period.

  • Strategic page structure designed to reflect your business goals
  • Custom, on-brand design tailored to your audience
  • Clean, mobile-friendly layouts that guide visitors toward action
  • SEO best practices built in from day one
  • Training session so you feel confident managing your site

Depending on your project, we may also expand into deeper messaging work, advanced SEO structure, or additional pages.

Because the goal is to create something that supports your business long after it goes live.

What Else Might you Need?

A website is often just one piece of a larger picture. As we work together, we may identify other needs to strengthen your online presence. To represent your brand well, you may need to refine your messaging to clarify branding, or improve how you show up in search results.

If additional support makes sense, we’ll talk it through openly. I offer optional help and trusted referrals, and I’ll always be upfront about whether something is worth adding based on your goals.

This is a collaborative process, not a preset package. We focus on what will actually support your business and skip the rest.

How long does a website project take?

To get started, we book you in for a specific 3 week design period. I recommend that you give yourself 2-4 weeks to complete some pre-design “homework” that includes gathering all the content for your site. During the 3-week design phase, you are my only website client so that I can dedicate my time to your project.

Week 1:

  • Kickoff call
  • Determine design visuals and branding
  • Draft homepage
  • Unlimited edits until 9am Monday

Week 2:

  • Design remaining pages
  • Unlimited edits through 5pm Friday
  • Set up functionality and external connections as needed

Week 3:

  • Final site checks
  • Review & finalize SEO optimization
  • Launch and training call
Are you the right designer for me?

If you’re a small business owner, service provider, or local shop owner who wants a website that feels aligned with your brand and genuinely supports your growth, without feeling overwhelmed by tech or marketing jargon, you’re in the right place.

I specialize in collaborating with values-driven businesses and organizations who want strategic, beautiful websites that are as practical as they are polished. If you value clear communication, thoughtful design, and a process that meets you where you are, we’ll be a great fit.

If you’re looking for a fast, templated build with no strategy behind it, I’m probably not your person.

Can I see your other designs?

Yes of course! Take a look at some of my favorite client case studies to see examples of recent work.

Do you offer branding or help with messaging?

Yes! I often help clients with the basics of clarify their messaging and branding as part of the web design process. If we discover you need more support during the pre-design phase, I have several trusted professionals available as add-on services.

Can you just update my existing Squarespace or WordPress website?

Absolutely. If your site needs a refresh instead of a rebuild, we can work with what you already have.

Websites are made up of 3 key elements and when only one needs adjusting, it makes for a great update project. When we need to adjust multiple areas, you generally need a full site design. The elements are:

  1. how it’s put together, or designed
  2. the words (copy)
  3. the images
What if I don’t know what I need?

That’s totally okay and happens all the time. Start by booking a free call, and from there I’ll recommend either a Website Audit or a personalized website proposal.

Are there any additional costs I should expect beyond website design?

Yes, there are a few essentials, including your domain registration, CMS platform subscription (Squarespace or WordPress hosting), a Privacy Policy for legal compliance, and optional security or SEO tools.

Expect roughly $100–$300 per year for domain and hosting, depending on your platform and I’ll walk you through exactly what you need based on your setup and goals, no surprises.

What platform should I choose, Squarespace or WordPress?

I work on both, but here’s my honest take. Squarespace is my go-to for most small business owners. It’s intuitive to update on your own, the designs are clean and mobile-friendly out of the gate, and you won’t need a developer every time you want to tweak something.

WordPress gives you more flexibility and is great if you need complex functionality, but it comes with more upkeep. If you’re not sure, we’ll talk it through on your discovery call and I’ll recommend what actually fits your situation, not what’s trendy.

Can I update the site myself after launch?

Absolutely, and I make sure you know how before I hand it over!

Every project wraps up with a training call where I walk you through how to make updates, add content, and manage the basics on your own.

If you decide later you’d rather have someone handle it, my website care plan covers website updates along with social media and marketing. But you’ll never be locked out of your own site.

Do you work with clients outside of the Boston area?

I do. Most of my clients are in the Boston area and I love working with local shops and service providers where I can see the impact in real life.

But I’ve also worked with values-aligned businesses further out. If you’re not local to me and my approach clicks with you, reach out and let’s see if we’re a good fit.

Ready to feel proud of your online presence?

Book a call today so that you can tell me all about what you envision, and to get a custom proposal for your new website. (Hate calls? Just contact me and we’ll work it out!). I’d love to create you a thoughtful small business website design for local and storefront businesses ready to strengthen their online visibility.

What Happens After You Book?

  1. We talk about your business
You’ll share what you do, who you serve, and what you want your website to accomplish.
  2. I’ll recommend the right approach
Whether that’s a Foundational Website, Strategic Website, or something smaller to start.
  3. You’ll get a clear proposal
If we decide to move forward, I’ll outline scope, timeline, and next steps.

No pressure. This is just a conversation about what would actually support your work.

Not sure if you’re ready? Start small.

Try a website audit so you know exactly what’s possible. I’ll help you decide whether you need a re-design or just a sprucing up of your existing website.
If you decide (within 30 days) to move forward with work, I’ll credit your investment towards that work.
