Are you ready to have your website start working for you—even when you’re sleeping?
You may have already searched high and low for website tips or even paid a designer, but today, I want to give you actionable insights to achieve real conversions on your website.
Many people believe they can’t learn the skills to turn their website into a conversion machine—but that belief is holding you back.
If you’re struggling with getting people to click and take the next action on your website, to convert, this is the place for you.
Ready to take a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into getting those website conversions so visitors will click and take that next step?
Always Include a Call to Action (CTA)
If you’re seeing website visitors but they’re not clicking through, your Call to Action (CTA) buttons are the first place to check.

A CTA is the intentional phrase that invites or “calls” your website visitor to take specific action. A CTA is like a tour guide for your website—it doesn’t just point the way; it leads your visitors to the next step with clarity and purpose. It’s the nudge that transforms curiosity into action.
On websites, CTAs are often in a button form—those clickable rectangles with text like “Learn More” or “Sign Me Up!” CTAs aren’t just about adding buttons—they’re about creating a seamless path for your visitors to follow. A great CTA can turn curiosity into action and help your business grow.
3 Steps for Effective Website CTAs

I am happy to say that I have achieved about a 10% conversion rate in terms of website visitors clicking a CTA. A common statistic is that websites convert about 2.5-5% of visitors (Wordstream, tested mostly in e-commerce, ads-based settings). While every site is different, improving your CTA strategy can help you build community, grow your email list, and increase sales.
Here’s how to optimize your CTAs for success:
1. Include a Highly Visible CTA on Every Page
Place your CTAs where they can’t be missed:
- Use contrasting colors to make them stand out.
- Add space around the button for visual clarity.
- Position them above the fold (the first screen of your website, before people scroll).
- Include a secondary CTA at the bottom of the page to lead your visitor to the next step.
2. Make the CTA the Logical Next Step
Your page’s copy should naturally lead visitors to the CTA. By the time they see it, they should be thinking: “Yes, this is exactly what I need right now!”
3. Get Creative with Language
A generic “Book Now” is better than no CTA, but you can go further. Use phrases that continue the conversation from your page. For example:
- Instead of “Sign Up,” try “Join the Fun!”
- Instead of “Learn More,” try “Discover the Secret to [X].”
Pro Tip: Test and tweak your CTAs regularly to find what resonates best with your audience. Don’t be afraid to show your personality and adapt based on your ideal client.
Some Advice from Andréa Jones

Never Let Generic Advice Lead You Astray
Your great-grandma might mean well when she says, “Just tell people what you’re offering, and they’ll come to you.” While her advice is heartfelt, it’s also outdated in today’s fast-paced digital world.

Generic advice like “just have a button that says ‘Click Here’” doesn’t cut it anymore. Instead, think of your CTA as a personal invitation tailored to your ideal audience. That’s what turns a passing glance into meaningful action.
When you’re feeling stuck and unsure of how to make your CTAs more impactful, turn to trusted experts for guidance. One of my favorite quotes on marketing is:
“Don’t find customers for your products, find products for your customers.”
—Seth Godin
This quote emphasizes the importance of understanding your audience and designing your offerings—and your CTAs—to directly address their needs and desires. By focusing on crafting CTAs that resonate with your target audience, you’re effectively creating a pathway that feels natural and necessary for them to follow.
So let it sink in the next time you’re fine-tuning your website. The clearer and more aligned your CTA is, the easier it is for visitors to move forward.
Beyond CTAs: What Else Do You Need for Conversions?
Updating your CTAs is a great start, but true conversions require a strong foundation. Here’s what else you’ll need:
- A Compelling Hero Section: Your website’s first impression matters. Make sure it communicates what you do, who you do it for, and how to take the next step–all above the fold (need help? Read my guide here).
- On-Point Copy: Your words should speak directly to your ideal client or customer, addressing their needs and desires. Want a hand with that? I strongly recommend Val Casola’s Homepage Copy Template (affiliate*) for a DIY approach to fine-tuning your copy.
- An Irresistible Offer: Whether it’s a freebie, consultation, or product, your offer should be something your audience can’t pass up.
- A Seamless User Experience: Remove friction by streamlining forms and ensuring the process to take action is simple and intuitive.
